The Swedish Mount Elgon association´s objectives are
To establish friendship between people in Sweden and people in the Mount Elgon area in Kenya, and to get know eachothers cultures and in that way create opportunity for people to understand one another.
To create and maintain channels for mutual exchange of ideas, knowledge and experiences.
To make people aware of the situation in the world today and especially the differences between developing countries and the western countries.
To show people practical ways to make a personal effort for other people.

The Swedish Mount Elgon association turned 20 in 2006
The Jiko house in Kimilili, Kenya. This is the associations "head quarters". Inside you can find work shops, an information center, a tree planting office, a library and offices for our different projects.

The Gustaf children´s home in Kimilili, Kenya was opened in 2006. When completed it will be able to host up to 60 homeless children. Today there are 10 children living there. The association is, spring/summer 2007, collecting money for solar panels and water tanks to make life easier in the home.

The association has had two volunteers, Carin Engdahl and Ingrid Ström, in Kimilili for half a year. They have been working in a project called SAMHSA, which is an information project aiming youth and issues about drug/alcohol abuse. If you know Swedish, there are some reports in the right column.
